Madrid, January 2027: padel's first global team circuit goes official
The International Padel Federation (FIP) and the Hexagon/54 team have confirmed the GENERALI Hexagon Cup Madrid as the inaugural event of the Hexagon World Series — the first global team padel competition to be fully sanctioned by the sport's governing body. The four-day tournament takes place 21–24 January 2027 at Madrid's Caja Mágica.
The announcement, made on 12 August, positions the Hexagon World Series as a new pillar within the FIP's competitive pyramid alongside Premier Padel and the Cupra FIP Tour. Unlike those pair-based circuits, the Hexagon World Series uses a team format in which the world's top professional players compete alongside owners drawn from the worlds of sport and entertainment.
Why Madrid, why January
The Hexagon Cup started life in Madrid in 2023, making the return to Caja Mágica a deliberate nod to the competition's origins. Sergio Lewin, co-founder and Operations & Sporting Managing Director of the series, said: "Madrid is where it all began, and we couldn't imagine a better place to officially launch this new chapter in January 2027."
GENERALI remains as title sponsor for a second consecutive year, continuing a partnership that has been central to the Hexagon Cup brand. By opening in January, the event will effectively kick off the 2027 professional padel calendar, ahead of the Cupra FIP Tour's first Bronze events and well before the Premier Padel season opener.
Four competition days and equal prize money
The 2027 edition runs over four competition days, reduced from five in the previous edition. A revised sporting format is expected to be detailed in the coming weeks, though the commitment to equal prize money for male and female competitors is already confirmed. Specific team compositions, player allocations and ownership groups for the Madrid event have not yet been announced.
The expansion of the Hexagon Cup concept into a multi-city global circuit reflects rising investment interest in franchised padel across multiple markets. Additional host cities for the 2027 Hexagon World Series calendar will be confirmed in the months ahead.
Delayed from 2026: the reasoning
The original plan called for the Hexagon World Series to launch a full international calendar in 2026. Organizers postponed the start to January 2027, citing the need to consolidate the sporting, operational and commercial infrastructure required for a sustainable multi-event global circuit. Under the new structure, the series will introduce multiple events per year across new international markets, all governed within the FIP's federative framework.
The first Premier Padel event on Spanish soil since the London P1 is the Comunidad de Madrid P1 at Movistar Arena, running 1–6 September 2026, with qualifying at Pro Pádel Coslada from 29 August. The tour then moves directly to Paris for the French Major, 7–13 September. Coello and Tapia enter Madrid as world number ones and defending London P1 champions.
