The Comunidad de Madrid Premier Padel P1 moved from its qualifying phase into the main draw on Tuesday, with 22 first-round matches scheduled across the courts of Movistar Arena. The five-day main programme — one of the circuit's most attended stops — runs through Sunday, 6 September, when the women's and men's finals will decide the champions in front of an expected sell-out crowd.
At stake are €479,000 in prize money and 1,000 FIP ranking points per winner — Madrid is the most significant regular-season stop before the autumn majors, now in its fifth edition at Movistar Arena.
Coello and Tapia: Chasing a Ninth Title of the Season
Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia arrive as men's ranking leaders with 20,909 FIP points and eight titles to their name in 2026 alone. The Spanish-Argentine pair won Madrid in both 2024 and 2025, and a third consecutive crown here would be a statement of dominance at a venue that has become something close to a home court for them. Their nearest challengers, Alejandro Galán and Federico Chingotto, trail by more than 3,500 ranking points and land in the opposite half of the draw, keeping the door open for a potential title-deciding final between the two leading pairs.
Stupaczuk and Sanz: From Belgrade to Premier Padel's Biggest Stage
The partnership of Jon Sanz and Franco Stupaczuk is the week's most closely watched new entry. The pair formed only weeks ago and marked their debut at the FIP Gold event in Belgrade last week by winning the title outright. Madrid is a different proposition: it is their first Premier Padel main-draw match as partners, scheduled for Wednesday, 2 September, when all eight top-seeded men's pairs take to court simultaneously at Movistar Arena.
Seeded fourth, Sanz and Stupaczuk fall on the same side of the draw as world number one pair Coello and Tapia. Should both teams advance as expected, they would meet in the semi-finals — a scenario that is already generating considerable interest among Spanish fans. Stupaczuk's former partner Mike Yanguas now plays alongside Coki Nieto, also seeded and also debuting Wednesday, adding personal subplot to an already loaded bracket.
Women's Draw: Fernández-Calvo Carry London Momentum
The women's section features one of the most competitive fields of the season. Ranking leaders Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea, along with Bea González and Paula Josemaría, will not enter the draw until Thursday. Tuesday's first round settles the lower half of a 28-pair bracket that also includes Ari Sánchez and Andrea Ustero.
The pair carrying the sharpest momentum into the week is Claudia Fernández and 18-year-old Martina Calvo. At the London P1 ten days ago, Calvo became the youngest player in Premier Padel history to win a title, at 18 years, 1 month and 4 days. Her partner Fernández, born and raised in Madrid, is now pursuing her third title at this specific event — a feat no other active player has achieved. Fernández's two previous Madrid victories make her the local favourite in the truest sense.
Sunday: Salazar's Farewell Between the Finals
The competitive programme closes Sunday with the women's and men's finals, but for the Madrid crowd the most emotionally charged moment will come in between. Alejandra Salazar, the most decorated player in padel history with seven world championships and a record 52 professional titles across her career, will receive a formal tribute at centre court. The Madrid native is completing her final season before retiring at the end of 2026, and this homecoming sends her off in front of the city she has represented for more than two decades.
Top seeds enter Wednesday, 2 September, with sessions running all day at Movistar Arena. Quarter-finals are set for Thursday-Friday, semi-finals on Saturday from noon, and the final double-header begins at 16:00 on Sunday.
