Four Matches, Two Upsets Still in Play
Saturday at Movistar Arena is semifinal day at the Comunidad de Madrid Premier Padel P1, and the narrative has shifted from the expected to the extraordinary. Two unseeded pairs — one seeded 15th for the week, the other 17th — have powered their way into the last four by toppling bigger names at every turn. All four matches begin at 12:00 CET and are available live and free on Red Bull TV.
Men's Draw: Seeds Under Siege
The first men's semi places Íñigo Jofre and Jairo Bautista, 15th seeds, against number-two seeds Alejandro Galán and Federico Chingotto. Jofre and Bautista reached this stage by edging Álex Arroyo and José Jiménez 6-2, 6-7(14), 6-3 in a quarterfinal that went to a marathon super-tiebreak before the pair held their nerve. Galán and Chingotto, for their part, needed to grind past Martín Di Nenno and Paquito Navarro to reach the semis. The match is scheduled no earlier than 14:00 CET.
The second men's semi pits Coki Nieto and Mike Yanguas against Tino Libaak and Gonzalo Alfonso, seeded 17th. Nieto and Yanguas produced the week's biggest shock in the quarters by dispatching third seeds Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia 7-5, 7-6 — a straight-sets demolition of the world number-three pair. Their opponents have been equally relentless: Libaak and Alfonso eliminated Lebrón-Augsburger in the round of 16 and then knocked out Italy's Abbate and Rodríguez 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 on Friday. Libaak, 21, is a world champion with Argentina; the pair also collected back-to-back FIP Gold titles earlier in 2026. This will be their first Premier Padel P1 semifinal.
Women's Draw: Fernández-Calvo and the Triplete
Opening the day at 12:00 CET, world number ones Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea face Ari Sánchez and Andrea Ustero. Triay and Brea are in full form after their 6-3, 6-3 win over Alejandra Salazar and Aranza Osoro in Friday's quarterfinals — the last time the retiring legend competes in Madrid. Sánchez and Ustero must be aggressive from the first game if they are to break Triay-Brea's rhythm in the Movistar Arena atmosphere.
The afternoon women's semi is the match Madrid fans have circled all week. Claudia Fernández and Martina Calvo are two wins from something no pair has achieved at a P1 in the Spanish capital: a third consecutive title in the same tournament. Fernández, the two-time defending Madrid champion, faces Paula Josemaría and Beatriz González — a consistent, battle-hardened pairing who will not make the path easy.
Schedule and What Follows
Saturday order of play: Women's SF1 (Triay/Brea vs Sánchez/Ustero, 12:00 CET), Men's SF1 (Jofre/Bautista vs Galán/Chingotto, not before 14:00 CET), Women's SF2 (Fernández/Calvo vs Josemaría/González), Men's SF2 (Nieto/Yanguas vs Libaak/Alfonso). Broadcast: Red Bull TV (free, worldwide); Movistar Plus Vamos (Spain).
The winners will have little time to celebrate: the Alpine Paris Major at Roland-Garros opens its qualifying rounds on Sunday, 6 September, with the main draw starting Monday, 7 September. Points earned at Movistar Arena today feed directly into the Paris seedings, meaning the stakes on every ball in Madrid are higher than any ordinary semifinal day.
