Women Take Centre Stage at Stade Roland-Garros
Tuesday 8 September marks the opening day of the women's main draw at the Alpine Paris Major, the second Major of the 2026 Premier Padel season. After a competitive Monday that saw unseeded men's pairs battle for their places in the Round of 32, the spotlight swings to the 40-pair women's bracket on the famous clay of Roland-Garros — where the tournament runs until Sunday 13 September with a total prize pool of €1,044,849.
Defending champions Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay are the story of the tournament before a ball has been struck in the women's draw. The pair walked into Paris just 72 hours after hoisting the Madrid P1 trophy — the victory that handed Triay her 58th career title and drew her level with all-time great Alejandra Salazar on the all-time wins list. Brea and Triay are the first pair of the 2026 season to attempt a Major title defence, and their record on this specific clay surface has no equal. Standing between them and back-to-back Paris titles are second seeds Paula Josemaría and Bea González, who lost the Madrid final to the same opponents five days ago and will be hunting a quick reversal. Ari Sánchez and Andrea Ustero (seeded 3rd) and Marta Ortega with Sofía Araújo round out the most dangerous names in the bracket.
A Farewell Framed in Clay
Eighth seeds Alejandra Salazar and Aranzazu Osoro open their campaign on Tuesday in what is reportedly the legendary player's final appearance at this tournament. For Salazar — one of the most decorated players in padel history, whose 58 titles now shared with Triay represent the sport's all-time record — Roland-Garros in September 2026 carries unmistakable weight. Her opening match in the main draw is expected to attract a deeply attentive audience from Spain and well beyond.
Men's Day One: Fonteny Sets the Tone
Monday's men's first round delivered clean results on the Roland-Garros clay. Wild-card pair Timéo Fonteny and Nacho Moragues Moltò needed just over an hour to dispatch Álvaro Meléndez and José Luis González 6-1, 6-4 — the Frenchman continuing his rise on the international circuit after a FIP Bronze title in Marnes earlier this year. French qualifier Thomas Leygue, partnered with Jesús Moya, also made his mark: having become the first French player to win a match at Roland-Garros in the Premier Padel circuit by beating Ferran Insa and Miguel Lamperti 6-1, 6-3 in qualifying last weekend, Leygue now joins the main draw alongside several compatriots.
Top seeds Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia — carrying a 57-7 win-loss record in 2026 and seeking a fourth consecutive Paris Major title despite their quarterfinal exit at Madrid — are not scheduled until Wednesday's Round of 32. Second seeds Federico Chingotto and Alejandro Galán, fresh from their seventh title of the season at Madrid, enter at the same stage. Fifth seeds Coki Nieto and Mike Yanguas, who reached the Madrid final before falling to Chingotto–Galán, complete the picture of a men's draw loaded with unfinished business.
Schedule and Where to Watch
Tuesday's programme begins at 12:00 noon Paris time. All matches through the round of 16 stream free on the Premier Padel YouTube channel. From the quarter-finals onwards (11-13 September), coverage moves exclusively to Red Bull TV. The champion in each draw earns €48,000.
