The Pro Padel League touches down in Los Angeles today for the most significant stop on its 2026 North American circuit. From Thursday August 13 through Sunday August 16, Barker Hangar in Santa Monica hosts professional padel for the first time — marking the PPL's inaugural appearance on the West Coast and the league's most ambitious geographical push to date.

Group Stage Session #1 tips off at 4:00 PM local time today, with all ten franchise teams in action across the week. Sunday's Podium Day — featuring the third-place playoff and the championship match — is set for 10:00 AM and will be broadcast nationally on CNBC, giving the sport its most prominent television slot in the United States so far this season.

Franchise Padel at Barker Hangar

The Pro Padel League operates on a franchise model unlike any other professional padel circuit. Ten teams — spread across the United States, Canada and Mexico — compete in a structured group stage format at each event. Each session features two team matchups and four matches in total, with men's and women's competitions running simultaneously under the same team banner.

Barker Hangar, a converted aircraft facility in Santa Monica, is known for hosting premium live events and provides the intimate sightlines and lounge-style atmosphere the league has built its brand around. With more than 40 elite players competing across the four days, the talent pool on display in LA will rival any event outside the Premier Padel P1 circuit.

The Los Angeles event is the second of five regular-season stops in the 2026 PPL calendar. New York (July 9–12, Hammerstein Ballroom) opened the season, followed by Los Angeles, then Playa del Carmen (September 24–27), Guadalajara (November 19–22) and the season finale in Miami (December 3–6).

New York Set the Standard

The PPL's New York opener in July established the competitive tone. In the men's final, DC Matrix — represented by Iñigo Jofre and Álex Arroyo — claimed the title. In the women's decider, the San Diego Stingrays' pairing of Vero Virseda and Claudia Jensen defeated the Florida Goats' Noa Cánovas and Carolina Orsi to take the championship.

Both results underlined a recurring theme of this young competition: the PPL's team format genuinely scrambles the usual hierarchy seen on the individual FIP circuit. Players who might face each other on opposite sides of the net at a Premier Padel event become teammates here, creating alliances and rivalries that feel distinct from anything else in the sport.

Why Los Angeles Matters for Padel

The United States is one of the fastest-growing padel markets in the world. According to the 2026 Playtomic Global Padel Report, the country is identified as one of the sport's biggest long-term growth opportunities, with courts multiplying rapidly in coastal cities. A professional event in one of the country's largest metropolitan areas — and a nationally televised championship — is a significant marketing tool for that growth.

The league announced a broadcast partnership with USA Sports for the 2026 season earlier this year, ensuring that the LA championship match reaches audiences well beyond those inside Barker Hangar's 40,000 square feet of event space.

What to Watch This Weekend

Friday (August 14) features two group stage sessions at 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM, with Saturday mirroring that format before Sunday's Podium Day concludes the LA leg. The team with the best group-stage record earns a seeding advantage into the championship bracket.

After Los Angeles, the PPL circuit crosses into Mexico for Playa del Carmen at the end of September. The cumulative points standings from all five stops will determine seedings for the Miami finale — currently the league's highest-profile event and, for now, the closest the PPL comes to a Grand Slam moment.
