The Hat-Trick Is on the Table for Coello and Tapia
The CUPRA Rotterdam Premier Padel P2 opened at the Rotterdam Ahoy on Monday as qualifying rounds got underway, setting the stage for a main draw that runs through to the final on 4 October. Top seeds Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia arrive as two-time defending Ahoy champions seeking an unprecedented third successive Rotterdam title. They will not take to the court for the main draw until Thursday, when the top four seeds enter the competition — a standard P2 format that gives the week's opening rounds a distinctly open feel.
Guerrero and Leal Arrive as the Week's Talking Point
The most immediate talking point entering the week is not Coello and Tapia but the pair they could face in the quarter-finals: seventh seeds Fran Guerrero and Javi Leal. The duo flew in from Lyon after winning the FIP Platinum there on Sunday, defeating top seeds Stupaczuk and Sanz 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 in a final that generated widespread headlines as much for the post-match phone-call gesture as for the result itself. Guerrero and Leal were left out of Spain's Doha World Cup squad announced on 24 September; Jon Sanz, who lost the Lyon final alongside Stupaczuk, was included. The pair arrive in Rotterdam on the hottest run of their partnership, operating outside of any national team obligations, and with a sharply defined motivation.
Coello and Tapia's opening main-draw match sees them face the winners of the Alonso and Goñi tie before any potential quarter-final meeting with the Lyon champions. Second seeds Fede Chingotto and Ale Galán sit in the opposite half of the draw, meaning the top two pairings on the circuit cannot collide before a possible Sunday final.
A P2 Week With World Cup Stakes
Rotterdam comes in the final stretch of the season before the 2–7 November FIP World Cup at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha, where a record prize fund of €1.2 million awaits. Spain's World Cup selector is expected to be present at the Ahoy during the week, giving performances of all nationally eligible players additional weight beyond the standard Race standings. The total Rotterdam prize pot stands at €264,534, distributed across both men's and women's draws.
The women's main draw also begins this week, with 24 pairs — 19 direct acceptances, four qualifiers, and one wildcard — competing on the Ahoy's four dedicated competition courts. Three Dutch wildcard holders feature in the men's draw, adding local support to a venue that regularly produces strong crowd atmospheres in the later rounds.
Broadcast and Schedule
Early-round matches and qualifiers are available live on the Premier Padel YouTube channel from Monday. Quarter-finals, semi-finals and both finals — provisionally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday — broadcast on Red Bull TV. Rotterdam Ahoy has hosted Premier Padel since the circuit's first season and remains one of the most reliably well-attended indoor venues on the calendar. After the drama of Lyon, all eyes will be on whether Guerrero and Leal can sustain their form into a P2 environment — and on whether Coello and Tapia can extend their mastery of a building they have made their own.
