Arnau Ayats and Emilio Sánchez Chamero arrived in Espoo, Finland, as one of the favourites to claim a third FIP title in a single month of August. The Spanish pair had won the FIP Silver in Collbató on 2 August and the FIP Bronze in El Prat on 16 August — a run that placed them among the most productive players on the summer satellite circuit. A third triumph at the FIP Silver ESC Padel II 2026 would have been a remarkable feat. Instead, the fourth seeds were eliminated at the semi-final stage on Friday, beaten 6-7, 7-6 by unseeded Sergio Icardo and Jordi Casanova Bataller in a match that turned on a single tiebreak at the end of the second set.
Sintes-Zamora and Icardo-Casanova Set for Saturday Final
The other semi-final produced a more straightforward result. Second seeds Marc Sintes Villalonga and Juan Zamora Perez were in control throughout against Matteo Sargolini and Bentahor Espino Mustafa, closing out a 6-3, 6-4 victory without serious alarm. The path to the final had cleared further after the event's top seeds, Antonio Fernández and Pedro Meléndez, were eliminated before the semi-final stage. Saturday's decider at the ESC Padel venue in Espoo will therefore be an all-Spanish affair — Sintes Villalonga and Zamora Perez versus Icardo and Casanova — with the €18,000 prize pool and a significant allocation of FIP ranking points at stake.
Ayats and Chamero's Remarkable August Run
Despite missing out on a historic treble, Ayats and Chamero leave Finland with their standing on the satellite circuit firmly intact. Their two-title August is among the strongest single-month performances seen on the FIP Tour at this level in 2026. Collbató and El Prat were won in the space of a fortnight; Finland would have been a third consecutive tournament victory. Both players remain strongly positioned in the FIP ranking and will have further opportunities on the CUPRA FIP Tour before the season's end. The FIP Silver ESC Padel II is the second Espoo event of 2026: in the earlier edition in March, Pol Hernández and Guillermo Collado defeated Alejandro Arroyo and Leonel Daniel Aguirre 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 in the final to claim the title.
San Luis Gold Concludes on the Same Day
Saturday also sees the conclusion of the FIP Gold San Luis in Mexico, the highest-category FIP event of the current week and one carrying 150 FIP ranking points. Top seeds in the men's draw are Alex Ruiz — already a FIP Gold winner at Ponta Delgada earlier in 2026 — alongside Franco Dal Bianco. Marta Borrero and Julia Polo, a four-time CUPRA FIP Tour winner in 2026, head the women's field. The quarter-finals and semi-finals in San Luis were played on Friday 21 August, making today's final the decisive moment for players positioned just outside the Premier Padel tour threshold who need ranking points before the Madrid P1 by Oysho, scheduled for 1–6 September at the Movistar Arena.
