Düsseldorf P2: all top-four seeds reach semis without dropping a set

Sixteen sets, zero upsets: Coello/Tapia, Galán/Chingotto, Josemaría/González and Sánchez/Ustero lead a perfect semi-final line-up in Düsseldorf.

Quarter-final Friday at the CUPRA Germany P2 went exactly to plan for the favourites. All eight matches in Düsseldorf were won by the higher-seeded pair, and not one of them needed a third set. That leaves the tournament with the semi-final line-up organisers would have hoped for: the top four seeds in both draws, men and women, are still standing at CASTELLO Düsseldorf.

Men: Coello/Tapia and Galán/Chingotto stay on course

Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia had the toughest finish of the day. After taking the first set 6-2 against Gonzalo Alfonso and Valentino Libaak, they were pushed hard in the second before closing out 7-5 in one hour and 15 minutes. For Alfonso and Libaak it was still a strong week. Earlier in the tournament they were named in Argentina's squad for the FIP World Cup.

Defending champions Federico Chingotto and Alejandro Galán beat Maximiliano Sánchez Blasco and Carlos Daniel "Sanyo" Gutiérrez 6-4, 6-1 in around an hour. It was a firm response after their quarter-final exit in Rotterdam a week ago, and a calmer day than their round-of-16 match, when they had to come from behind.

Franco Stupaczuk and Jon Sanz beat Martín Di Nenno and Francisco "Paquito" Navarro 6-3, 6-3 in 1h14. Juan Lebrón and Leandro Augsburger, who had to come from behind against Iñigo Jofre and Juanlu Esbrí earlier in the week, beat Maximiliano Arce and Juan Tello by the same score. That ended the run of Arce and Tello, who had knocked out the No. 8 seeds in the first round.

Women: a repeat of Rotterdam

The women's semi-finals are the same four pairs that met in the last four in Rotterdam. Paula Josemaría and Bea González needed only 53 minutes to beat Marina Guinart and Alejandra Alonso 6-0, 6-1. Claudia Fernández and Martina Calvo beat Marta Ortega and Sofía Araújo 6-0, 6-3.

Ari Sánchez and Andrea Ustero continued their autumn run with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Alejandra Salazar and Aranzazu Osoro in 50 minutes. Salazar had needed three hours and 31 minutes to get through her previous match. The defending champions, Delfina Brea and Gemma Triay, beat Claudia Jensen and Noa Cánovas 6-3, 6-1 in 1h20.

Saturday's semi-finals: revenge on the menu

Several of today's matches carry history from last week. In Rotterdam, Sánchez and Ustero beat Brea and Triay in the semi-finals and then beat Josemaría and González 6-4, 6-4 in the final. It was their second title in a row after the Paris Major and their fourth of the season. Brea and Triay now get an immediate chance to reverse that result.

On the men's side, Coello and Tapia arrive as the form team. Their 6-3, 6-2 win over Stupaczuk and Sanz in the Rotterdam final was their tenth title of 2026, after another win at Roland Garros in September. They face Lebrón and Augsburger next. In the other half, Galán and Chingotto play Stupaczuk and Sanz, the pair that reached last week's final while the defending champions went out early.
